NGC 2419 on 2025-12-30,31 The Intergalactic Wanderer
NGC 2419 (also known as Caldwell 25) is a globular cluster in the constellation Lynx. Located just to the right of the two bright blue stars in this photo, zoom in to view of one of the most distant parts of our galaxy, about 300,000 light years from us. NGC 2419 is also called "The Intergalactic Wanderer". Its orbit takes it farther away from the galactic center than the Magellanic Clouds. At this great distance it takes three billion years to make one trip around the galaxy. It is one of the brightest and most massive globular clusters, appearing small and faint due to it's extreme distance. This photo was taken in Kyle, Texas through a 4.5-inch f/4 Telescope on a Sky-Watcher EQ6-R mount, with a ZWO ASI533MC PRO color camera plus an Optolong L Pro Light Pollution Filter. The processing was done in PixInsight. The total image acquisition time is: 5 hrs. 13 min 00 sec.
